Read what some of the students of the Philadelphia School District has to say.
"Our school closes early some days, we can't afford certain things including repairs and we are funding sports teams but there has been a lot of fundraising for that and other things."
- Junior from Science Leadership Academy
"No one can stay after school and monitor any extra after school anythings we wanna have, nor do we get help to support our tech issues, and if we had funding we could do those things and so much more, and I dislike the education system with a passion that burns as warm as the sun orbiting the Milky Way, but I love my school and how they've been able to make education work in these poor education situations."
- Senior from Science Leadership Academy
"Since our school is a magnet school, it has different effects then another school would have from the budget cuts. We use laptops for every class wether creating projects or doing homework and due to the budget cuts, we have no funds to provide care for our laptops or give our freshman new ones."
- Senior from Science Leadership Academy
"We had to go paperless because mailing things and affording paper in general is to hard with a school or 2400. Sports teams are also extremely affected by it for example the girls soccer team needs to raise 3000 dollars by next year to get new uniforms in order to keep up with the PIAA's rules and they have to do it by themselves"
- Junior from Central High School
"We could use some new books; our texts books are like 30 years old"
- Junior from Central High School
"Sports teams, like JV soccer, and funding for Sports team's uniforms and stuff got cut. Students have to pay for some standardized test that were covered before. Programs and clubs have gotten cut."
- Student from Central High School
"Our bathrooms are disgusting because of budget cuts. They cut cleaning staff so our bathrooms only get cleaned like once every week. They are actually terrible now and hard to even go into."
- Senior from Central High School
"Providing better materials for the students, restoring some favored programs by the students, and creating a better experience for the students and reducing some things that we have to pay for now due to the cuts." - Student from Julia R. Masterman High School"
I don’t know much about the school district, but from what I can see from the results of the majority of public schools in our city is that they need to be more involved in what is going on in every school, whether is public or charter. They need to be making sure that students are gaining the knowledge they need to succeed as they mature."
- Student from Prep Charter
"GAMP had to get rid of about 2 afterschool clubs, currently being pressured to end the tennis program, and we cant have anything at school that will keep it open past 8 PM"
- Student from Girard Academic Music Program
"We lost our basketball team and many staff members"
- Student from W.B. Saul
"We don't have money for books, our sports were on the line, and we don't have money to fix anything thats considered minor in the district."
- Student from Bodine High School
